What Is New
School is out. It is June now, and the majority of schools are out throughout the United States. So what does this mean? Travel... This is the time of the year when the majority of families travel. Now is the time that Charleston starts to become more packed with tourists.
I recommend that if you are traveling this time of the year, plan your trips out ahead of time, make your reservations weeks to months in advance, and while you walk around the streets of Charleston, drinks lots of water.
I want to let everyone know that I have been spending a lot of time working on my TikTok reels. You will be able to get a lot of great ideas and information about Charleston from there. Make sure to check it out and follow. The Traveling Drifter's TikTok.

As you walk around Charleston, you will hear and see it referred to as, The Holy City. But why is it called that?
I have put together a post that dives deep into the history of why Charleston is called The Holy City. From religous tolerance to all the steeples that make Charleston's skyline, there is a story which creates a unique understanding on why Charleston has this nickname.
Joe Riley Waterfront Park, nestled along Charleston’s historic harbor, is a beloved 8-acre green space that seamlessly blends natural beauty with urban charm.
Opened in 1990 and named after longtime Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr., the park transformed a once-neglected industrial waterfront into a serene public retreat. Its most iconic feature is the Pineapple Fountain, symbolizing Southern hospitality, alongside a scenic pier with family-sized swings offering panoramic views of the Cooper River and Ravenel Bridge .
Visitors can enjoy shaded oak-lined paths, lush gardens, and a palmetto-lined promenade perfect for leisurely strolls. The park also features bronze castings of historic Charleston maps and restored salt marshes that highlight the city’s maritime heritage .
Whether you're watching sailboats drift by or relaxing on a bench swing, Joe Riley Waterfront Park offers a peaceful escape in the heart of downtown Charleston.
